On Campus
Revelle Plaza:
The most popular place you will find people "trick" skating on campus. Located in the quad area in front of York Hall, you will often bump into somebody skateboarding here on any given afternoon. The open area makes it a perfect place to practice tricks and for new student a great place to find other skateboarders that attend UCSD as well. The plaza will be a bit crowded in the early afternoons when most people are going to class so the optimal time to come here is usually around 4pm. It is also a great meetup spot because it is at the top of the hill so going to other places around campus are generally downhill from here. Lots of people skateboard in this plaza and you will often meet people who are just from around the area skateboarding here too. All in all it is a great place to just hang-out and do what you love.

Solis Hall 10 stair:
You may have seen this staircase on your way to class, it is hard to miss because of the brick landing. Many people have come through and landed big tricks down this staircase, most recent was probably Wes Kremer's tailslide down the ledge on the rail on the left of the set. It is a big 10 stair so be ready to take a couple slams when trying tricks down this thing. Although the brick looks like it would be a problem, it really is not and is actually pretty smooth to skate on. There is a six stair and a waxed ledge leading up to this staircase and you will see most people choose to do a combination of tricks on these three obstacles in most skateboarding videos. Not for the feint of heart, this set is definitely not an everyday hang out spot but when you want to land that one big trick for your video part you will know where to look for this thing. Located right above Solis Hall.

The Slab Gap:
Another popular skate spot on campus you will see in many skateboarding videos. This gap is located by the coffee cart by Porter's Pub. The gap is pretty long, about 8 feet and a height of about 4 feet, so it is definitely not an easy gap to skate. Be prepared to go fast and don't bail because this thing is pretty hefty. The gap is dirt so if you happen to bail out on the trick there is not a whole lot of danger involved regarding your body but do not think that this thing is a walk in the park. This area has a really good atmosphere with lots of trees so not only is it a good place to skate but it is also a great place to hang out. When you are bored of throwing your body down big gaps you can always walk over to Porter's Pub and grab a beer to cool off and numb those wounds!

Manedeville Ledge:
Located on the basement floor of the Mandeville art building, this ledge has seen better days. A little chunky from years of being grinded on, this thing is one of the few remaining ledges on campus that have not met the same metal-capped fate as most other ledges built around campus. You also won't have to worry about the police interrupting a session down here as most of the students who use this area are okay with skateboarding, but don't come here during usual classroom hours because it is on the basement floor so it does echo. The ledge could use an angle iron or a new layer of concrete but skateboarding around UCSD you have to realize that sometimes you just have to work with what you got. There are more ledges in the basement area that are not waxed but in much better condition than this one. Treat this place with respect, too many people have ruined it for others by spray painting on the walls down here. Beware, they have installed HD security cameras to deter people from vandalism.

Skateboard Recreation:
Want to unwind at the end of the school week and not worry about police showing up to the session? This is the one area the campus gives the okay to "trick" skate, and only on one day out of the week. It is a class you must sign up for through the recreation department and there will be a link below. There is a $12 sign up fee but that is only to help pay for the equipment. As of right now the class has been put on hold and the equipment taken out due to vandalism by outside skateboarders coming into the area on non-regulated days and using the ramps. Located above the track on the very end of the stone building, the area can be a little hard to find and is not publicized very much so most of the people who come here hear about it through word-of-mouth. Check the link regularly for sign-ups because the class is a great place to skateboard on Fridays and meet skateboarders who also go to campus. The best part about this area is that you don't have to break your body on a big gap or skate a chunky ledge in order to have fun. The equipment is kept well maintained and everyone who comes to skate has a great time just hanging out together.
